Wild Honey Sound System are Matthew, Mark and Fran, three friends brought together by a love of records, crystal clear HiFi sounds and staying up late until its early.
They enjoy playing a broad range of music, generally rooted in gritty U.S. soul and disco from the 70′s and 80′s. They cheerfully compliment their disco heartbeat with Krautrock, dub, electronica, house and freesoul in exclusively vinyl sets that can be dance floor friendly or, for those that prefer to listen, relaxing soundscapes fit for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
They produce an irregular A4 disco fanzine, culled from their collective ‘knowledge’ and that gets scattered around the pubs, clubs and shops of Nottingham. You can read the online versions on this site (see the menu above) or you can contact them via their Facebook page here, and get them to send you a hard copy. Prepare to be amazed.
They have DJ gigs here there and everywhere, including The Alley Cafe, Bar Eleven, Mark’s living room and their heads (which is also where the fanzine comes from). They also promote parties at Nottingham’s Old Angel in Hockley, where they railroad DJs such as Cynic’s Felix Dickinson to bring dance floor mayhem until 4am.
